My mom has had problems with viruses for like a month now.  Today I was reinstalling AVG and during this I got a blue screen and the comp restarted, well, it froze on the Gateway logo screen with the F10 for boot settings...etc stuff.  The keyboard wasn't working??  I tried to restart it and it froze again.  Do you know what the problem could be?

is there anyway you could try to get the keyboard to work just before it freezes? because that'd help you a lot. You could set the bootsetup so you boot from cd (if not already done) and reinstall windows. If keyboard's not working at all, oh man i dunno hopefully some experts here can help you

do the num/scroll/caps indicator lights still work? try unplugging the mouse just in case it is your keyboard. if it's not your keyboard it might be a hardware problem, your computer isn't getting through POST but you can't see it due to the splash screen?

I USE Q'S INSTEQD OF Q'S

I dunno I left it on that screen for a couple of minutes and it eventually left.  Those keys didn't work but now they do.  Her comp is pretty fucked up so I'm probably just going to have to reinstall Vista.

This process is a pain in the ass don't do it unless you absolutely need to!

But if your mom want's you to back up her documents... you need to.

my mom's like "I need to save some stuff that's important because this computer is acting up."  Like a 2 weeks later and she hasn't saved anything...

I guess I'll do that too.
