Bubble Bobble: The Adventure is an unlicensed addition to Taito's classic arcade game franchise, exclusive to the ZX Spectrum

title music is a rendition of Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre

by bug or courageous design choice, when you start the game the last musical note played keeps going forever as a static tone so maybe turn the volume down at this point

[[edit: oooops, it looks like this bug is in the emulator I was using! so the game itself should not be blamed...]]

useful commands: left, right, enter, exittake (item), use (item)

is it too much to ask for someone to make a concept album about this

i mean the game text is already so lyrical

First, I want it to be said that Bubble (the name of the green little dragon) and Bobble (the name of the blue little dragon) are very funny dragons, and I want you to like them -- Anton ze Player. He sounds like a real sweetheart!

the game ends not long after the scenes I've shown... a second chapter was planned but never finished, & all that survives is this loading screen:

heh, making fun of my engrish. :D yeah, when i was young, the only chances to get acquainted with english language were some games, magazines and demos. so... :disgust:

btw, i wanted to make "proper language" version not a long time ago, but i realized that there's not only in-game text, but the screens with graphics (where text was overlayed as graphics, too). and i haven't source code or graphics anymore, so no chance for it. :(

by bug or courageous design choice, when you start the game the last musical note played keeps going forever as a static tone so maybe turn the volume down at this point

btw, there was no such bug when the game was released. i just checked it with ZXMAK2 emulator (original TZX tape image), and there's no glitch sound when you start a game after title screen music...

p.s.: the game was developed on Pentagon 128K or even my later Profi 512K machine, so maybe it's better to run it on that hardware (in emulator, of course).

seriously dude, the text in the game has idk, nice flow/feel to it. we're not being malicious or patronizing, everybody here is genuively liking this... :fogetcool:

i feel you though, i'm not a native english either and I learned all my english from video games...! (i'm from Finland...)

also welcome & honoured to make your acquitance Anton!!

ahh, really? I apologise... I was going off of the online emulator at World of Spectrum (running from the TZX which I think is the same one from your site), I just tried it there and it happened again, so it sounds like it is a bug in the Java emulator WoS uses

also: welcome to salt world!! :) I really hope you do not feel insulted by this thread, it is genuinely intended as a celebration, this is a joyful little game with unique style & charm, the constraints that you had to deal with like the english you knew and the graphical limitations of ZX and the hand-written command parser/text adventure engine are part of it, but there's more to it than that for sure...

it's really cool that you showed up!!!
I'm really curious as to how programming worked on that machine. did you simply write everything in assembly, were there any tools?

no, i used built-in ZX Spectrum BASIC 128. and all images were loaded into RAM disk, then accessed from it when needed.

I hate to necro an almost two-year-old thread, but I notice that it has screenshots from past the point where I got stuck in my LP right here: I'm not asking for an outright walkthrough, as I want to solve it myself, but I do need help getting past the dock.
