I make music too.

Most of the time ambient stuff.

You can check it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

I didn't yet listen to your ambient and I will selfishly and unashamedly admit it, but I Must Say that I've found all Ambient creators to be very upright and respectable citizens. that is all.

All creators deserve respect for they are harnessing their feelings into pure unfiltered artistic expression. But thank you for your kindness.

BE I always had the impression it was probably a totally hermetic, personal thing for him. Like someone generating their own pornography; they don’t particularly want to show it to anyone else. Another very interesting area of outsider art now is drawn pornography. God, there’s some amazing things going on. They’re using semi-real images, but they’re just extending the bits they want more of, you know – or much further than that. I’ve started collecting them.

But besides enochat, I took a listen to Selfish Dream's sounds.

Observatory is fucking awesome dark ambient, the first two tracks sound absolutely perfect for a King's Field type of oppressive medieval game. the third sounds like a factory/sewer in the same setting. the fourth and sixth totally sound like interstices from a gloomy earhtbound hack. Flies Welcome You to Paradise has the coolest title, awesome intimidating length too. The sound is great and perfectly named. Muffled enjoyment has a fantastic, exciting first two minutes, again really nice medieval gamecubey strings, obv a little higher quality/crisper than real cd audio ones. the eighth has a cool-ass cinematic feel.

I haven't played transcendence so I can't say how it complements the game's feel, but the album is really nice, and it's dope that you have a 22 minute track in a game. I always wanted to put some really long developing piece in that you would have to zone out and explore over the world map to hear uninterrupted. I also fucking love little short loops in games - Yume Nikki being the reigning monarch of this imo - and I really like the 10-second loops you have in here, esp A Few Pieces of Your Consciousness. Absolute potion bottle sound. The same in general goes for Radiance and One of Us, i esp like Our Mother cause it reminds me of the super simple Neftelia piano world map loop, and Run b/c lo-fier cool strings start.

Holy poodles I wasn't expecting anyone to listen to my music, let alone give a full review on it. Much appreciated!

Most of the music in Transcendence was inspired indeed by Yume Nikki plus I didn't want my game to be too large (you know bits and bytes and all that). That's why most of it is 10 second loops.

Our Mother is also my favourite track from Radiance, because of the reason that it's used for: The character must kill their mother, which also the Mother of all creation. Our Mother.

Thank you for the kind words.

Yeah, the ending theme to YN is like four seconds long and I could just listen to it loop forever. The 2kki team did a good job approximating that far-off SNES rumble kikiyama did a lot of. The track posted reminds me of the highway forest BGMs kind of blended with that huge unfolding synth note from the, uh, area with the windmill thingy in it. I think you get there from the sewer.

Selfish Dream have you played any of amon26's games, esp the first two All of Our Friends are Dead and Au Sable? The title style and gobs of dark ambience are quite like yours, I imagine you might like them if you haven't already.

Those games had KILLER atmosphere. I was so disappointed by Amon26 because the first thing he did is such an insane, rough-edged game - it doesn't give a shit about anything besides presenting a weird world and pulls off a couple of truly upsetting moments - and his subsequent work polishes all the rawness right out. Each subsequent game gets lamer and less creative, until he's just releasing the Game Maker FPS example with sprites added. It was scary to watch when it was happening. Also to see his games get more acclaim as they lost their spark and turned into shit.

I have played all of them to completion, except for Gyossait.

They were indeed rough around the edges and unpolished, but there was charm in them. I didn't see that drop in quality as much as you pointed out Weedo, but I must say Amon26 has a lot of cliches in his games: Heavy use of red and black, needlessly vague and obtuse story and lore, shoving spooky imagery down your throat.

I suppose even genres as non comforming as horror still have to follow some pretenses of normality for the mainstream media to truly "get" the kind of horror they are portraying. So in that sense I understand the acclaim his newer games are getting. AoOFAD will always remain his masterpiece (i still liked the Hunt though, sorry).

Hell yeah. for a little while I got really into Au Sable to the point where I was basically speedrunning it before i knew anything about that, it's still the only game I've done that with. There was some shit you could pull with the final boss to get stuck up on one of the poky pillar things that come out of the sides and hem you in. Alright, you got me - I admit the progression from AOOFAD -> Au Sable was cool to see as a fan of the first game. The slightly more gamely tone was an interesting direction and the bits with the Yoshi's Island style fading-out foregrounds on ruined houses was so fucking cool, I wish that effect had gotten used more.

I remember starting Gyossait but not finishing it because, like you said, Amon's definitely got a stable he goes back to and by that point I thought he had fallen victim to retreading his old haunts but without the rawness that made them attractive and with only superficial alterations to the gameplay formula that made it feel less like a personal game and more like any other commercial horror release. And the setting was less interesting than a faux-apocalypse or spooky town. i don't even remember what it was! I can't get enough needlessly vague stories so that was another aspect to my enjoyment, I like how aoofad is just a fervid dream with no characters or intelligibility, au sable grew this abstract witchy sort of story that is obviously an excuse to throw angels and fetuses at you, gyossait had something or other that was probably spelled out more and even dumber.

there's nothing wrong with game maker fps example games, i liked the little demo he put out before the Hunt that was like "get mobbed by billboards demons and die in a forest", because it was so unashamedly a reskinned fps6.gm6 or whatever. But by the time the Hunt came out I had lost my excitement for him and didn't bother trying it out.
