This is probably weird posting a farewell on this site, since I've posted here so little. But believe me, I've always kept up with the community and its activities. The reason for my lack of posts is partly why I'm leaving. There has always been a certain level of intimidation when it came to posting on here as many of the veterans tend to have a bad habit of intimidating people who aren't a part of their inner circle. Also, one or two of my few posts have met with unnecessary inflammatory responses:

Then again I guess that many people just really don't have a clue about these things but still want to get that extra post count +1.

Too be quite honest, most of my disdain comes from the lack of support and antagonistic attitude towards indie game/game & demo:

And the reason G&D has been "abandoned" is because it mostly sucks, and the forum regulars have moved on from RPG Maker.

While I'll admit that there isare lot of demos posted on there that need a lot of work, the inflammatory attitude that generates is unnecessary and causes a lot of people, myself included, to feel insecure and unsure about all the work put into our games because the veterans have some disdain towards games made with *gasp* RPG Maker (on a website devoted to amateur gaming, in which rpg maker makes up a large majority of).
I have been working on a game for over 3 years now, and I've always wanted to post the finished result on here, but when I see this type of conduct, it really discourages me from doing so out of fear that it will generate nothing but flames and deconstructive criticism. I can take harsh criticism, as long as its constructive, but that is the one thing I never see on G&D.

I feel like I've been a loyal member of this community, so it hurts me to see all the elitism and circle jerking that this forum has become. So that's why I can no longer be a member of this forum. Maybe, if GW 6 ever gets done, I can return here as a regular on the main site, but rest assured, you will never see me on the forums again.

This is another legitimate post which should be getting the attention of the admins, (who should be concerned that people are leaving the site and probably spreading negative remarks about GW on other places) but because of smart guys like evangel (and many that are going to come)  this will just derail and/or just quietly fall.

evangel is a smart ass now?

jesus christ what the fuck am I then?

I wish you provided, you know, a link to this stuff because an out of context quote doesn't help. I'll take a crack at it though.

jesus never mind I can't be bothered to go through like five or six different topics.

you're also assuming anyone in g&d treats cardinal ximenex with anything but contempt, but that's a bit of a digression. the fact is first off ximenex shouldn't be making those posts in g&d if he is, because we separated the two for that very reason. and more importantly, it IS kind of an embarassing scene. I've seen with NO EXAGGERATION AT ALL topics from g&d members arguing:

-cliches are not bad, not even just unfortunately necessary, but should be espoused as good things.
-innovation is not nearly as important as making an otherwise completely boring rpg with nothing interesting.
-all demos should create hype, or be regarded as failures.

this ignores stuff I'm assuming you never noticed such as

-G&D deliberately IGNORING non rm2k/3 games, going so far as to shun Barkley, hima, and cactus, easily the three most successful designers to post on the community.
-G&D's multiple circlejerk topics. before your time, topics with zero actual merit were allowed to be bumped just to generate hype. a good fellow named Legion posted a topic and deliberately shadowed all his character portraits so when he felt like it he could bump the topic and say NEW CHARACTER BIO UP. all the bios were of course already done; he held onto them for bumping purposes.
-G&D members ignoring ideas like "we should try to appeal to all indie gamers" and focusing on someone saying "g&d isn't pulling in anyone and they're making some pretty shitty games to boot"

G&D built a negative rep in the community, whether they agree it's deserved or not. G&D does not donate nearly as much money as non-G&D members, G&D staffers quit regularly because the other G&D members in a silent protest refuse to comment on their articles, and G&D guys actually do just sit around and have their own little elitist club. amazingly the club is better than most of the NON-CLUB members who tend to be incredibly young and thus take any criticism, harsh or simple, as an insult.

there's nothing Ximenex said that isn't true. G&D was abandoned because the people who have been drawing attention have been mostly nackster, Sarevok, and the gamemakers above that I mentioned, where a lot of the regulars ignored them deliberately and at times, believed they were being insulted by the games. the regular members have for the most part abandoned RM making; ask most of the GW members outside of G&D what projects they are looking forward to and I guarantee 9 out of 10 will say Barkley 2 or Faceless neither of which are in RM. if he posted it in G&D, that's just asinine, but he's not saying anything that isn't the truth.

Steel is basically right.

I also think people overreact to what is said about games and need to learn to take criticism. If you're not making a game for e-props you should want to do the best you can.

Steel, you are right when you say that there is a lot of crap on Game & Demo. That's my whole problem. Since there's so much nonsense on G&D and Indie Game Dev, the few regulars who decide to pass on through G&D and Indie Games decide to just flame the few crappy games and discussion topics and assume everything else is just as bad. Thus anything remotely legitimate is ignored. It makes it discouraging for newer people who are serious about game development.

I want to keep making games for the sake of making games (not for "e-props") but even when you say statements that suggest that making games on RM is pointless makes it really discouraging. I, for one, am still a loyal RM user. I'm all for learning more powerful engines, but when I spend three years making an RM2K game, I'm not going to abandon it just because others may be using more powerful engines.

I'd like to post my stuff here when the project is finished but I'd like to know that my stuff is not gonna get looked over as just "another crappy Indie Game Dev/G&D post" and receive criticism that's actually constructive.

you should just post your game dude. if its good, it WILL get noticed and people WILL see it. nobody is going to ridicule your game if it doesn't deserve it. If you've been working on it for 3 years, it probably does not suck.

did you not read AOL's fine print? it's against the terms and conditions of most ISPs to be nervous on the internet.1

You know what, it's not even worth it. I have better things to do than argue over whether or not  some anonymous people will give a damn about my game.
