I agree with you guys, and that's how I've been keeping my system updated for so many years. Instead of paying 1k+ on THE LATEST AND GREATEST, I spend around $300-$500 and get my system current. It's not the fastest, or even the second fastest, but it's not that far behind them, ESPECIALLY considering the cost. Why would I pay 400$ for a GTX 280 when I could get a GTX 260 for $200? The 280 is only around 20% faster, but I would have to pay 100% more just to say I have the very best (which wouldn't last long), and to get that extra 7 fps I won't notice when I'm running max settings.

Speaking of AA, I would have to assume the norm now is around 4x still? I rarely notice a difference in quality between 4x and 8x unless I'm playing very old games, and I can't tell the difference between 16x and 8x so I don't even waste the extra processing power on it. I guess it would also depend on the game too. TF2 I run in 4x, because it's BARELY noticable from 8x. WoW I'll run at 8x because there is almost no performance hit, but you really can tell the difference on the edges. Crysis no doubt looks better in 8x than 4x, but the performance hit is too high for something not nearly as impressive as a higher resolution or more AF.

I play a lot of games at 1680*1050 with no AA or 2xAA and think they look really great. It depends on the game, really; the more AA isn't always the better either since it can make the picture overly sharp.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

I run most things in 2x or 4x AA. I can notice the difference from 0-2x fairly obviously, and then 2x-4x just smooths it out that much more. At 4x-8x it is noticeable, but usually costs a fair bit in terms of processing powering and I wouldn't say it's 'worth it' at least for me. 8x-16x I notice almost no difference unless I start LOOKING FOR EDGES which show aliasing.
