That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

those sigs were honestly useful in getting rid of that stupid WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO topic so i can't hate on them too much.

part of the reason i really dislike this kind of shit btw is I REALLY DISLIKE THIS KIND OF BORING SHIT and I lied when I said I liked the gimmick (well I actually don't mind collaborative efforts which is the gimmick I was really addressing). first off no this isn't something i'd ever listen to. are you kidding me? its a cover of fucking Stand By Me. I wouldn't care about this if I was in it!

secondly I think it's indicative of a luckily DYING sense of "world music" that was perpetuated for way too long. earlier this month I finally defriended race "scholar" (he can say the stupidest fucking things) Tim Wise on Facebook not because he was just...being...so dumb but because he posted a video saying HOW SOUL AFFIRMING. I saw several black children in the video and it was clearly them singing. knowing Wise's interests I expected either some kind of urban school in the brink of decay but they're still singing some feel good blah blah stuff.

it was kids singing Viva la Vida. all the comments were HOW SOUL AFFIRMING and shit like that it was fucking Coldplay.

I do not like these kinds of things. when people supposedly unite under a banner, and then proceed to cover or make a song that has absolutely nothing to do with them. am I supposed to genuinely believe children singing Coldplay is a video I care about? this organization (which no thanks to GR I had to look up on my own) is raising money for a music school in foreign lands.

they chose to promote it by having a bunch of people sing a cover of an English song. awesome. good job guys. American Idol sings to the fucking troops huh. why not have a song from the region you are you know TRYING TO HELP? because youtube won't watch THAT cover. they won't get it. no it's better that despite every single aspect of this supposedly being multicultural we sing a banal fucking cover. hmm let's gamble. how about IMAGINE? that's a creative choice for our next shill. raising money for a music school in another country that will have nothing to do to do with easy listening should not be done by musicians across the world singing and playing Stand By Me. it's dumb and it perpetuates a myth that not only are these kinds of songs representative of the world of international music (NEW: GOOGOOSH COVERING LADY GAGA) but that ethnic music can't stand on its own.

luckily as our own pal DS will back me up on this shit has been falling out of favor ever since Graceland (which whatever else it may have done punctured the cultural boycott directly, although bands like the Talking Heads or artists like Jeff Buckley have weaved musical styles into western music much better) and whatever you think of VAMP WEEKEND and shit you can't deny that more than ever African music in particular is getting press on its OWN merit. despite that Amadou and Mariam album being probably their worst to date, I heard Sabali on the radio yesterday. Toumani Diabatte's album topped lists in 08. Fela Kuti is less of a name drop and more of a "you DON'T know who that is?" (admittedly this is for much worse reasons and probably not because of the spread of real multiculturalism).

this video would have been something I'd care about if it was a genuine exercise in artists across the world attempting to show the real power of ethnic traditions in music instead of just shoving some black chicks going OOOOOO and acting like you've made a great stand for a school somewhere. it doesn't help that I can think of exactly ZERO of these ever working to any great success, even Live 8 tends to be found out as wasting more money than it raises usually.

you can say JUST A FUN LITTLE VID but that just kind of shows at best you're a boring person getting a kick out of a boring song and at worst you're perpetuating a pretty stupid mentality when it comes to spreading foreign music.

qawwali for life wc get in here school some dudes about scales or something.

feel free to disagree with everything I said as I haven't thought about it much and this topic blows otherwise so I went ahead and made a LOT of overarching statements but no I don't agree that doing anything for a supposed charity (especially since once again has anyone ever seen this shit have a real impact? that dumb sarah mclaughlin video is really the only thing I can think of that actually pulled off any charitable donations and it was literally her GIVING MONEY AWAY) and thinking its toe tapping fun is just a cute little vid. it can also be stupid as fuck.

sounds like your approach to life is more of "born hatin, learnt to like some stuff" instead of "born lovin, learnt to dislike some shit"

my attitude towards life is neither of those, and has nothing to do with what I was quoting (you realize that like four posts above you panda and treg are discussing these very sigs and panda dislikes them and treg thinks its just a sig and HATIN does not mean ACTUAL HATE at all in this context) and that was one of the worst topics on gw.

it was like twenty page of people posting

29501. Joy Wants Eternity - [You Who Pretend to Sleep #03] From Embrace to Embrace

and leaving.

goddammit shep why do you make such bad posts sometimes. its like in your constant attempt to be as succinct as possible you forgot that for brevity to be the soul of wit there must be some WIT behind it to begin with. you and marmot love just making pithy one liners and they're 90% really bad when you do.

panda based on your joke post where you said motherfucking blood war i think your attitude towards life is closer to long term attempts at oedipal based genocide instead of casual forum jokes aaaa this isn't even funny as a parody post because its dumb.

irt to the sig yeah it's kind of dumb but i actually think it's dumb because you're using the one liner one! the little chart with the last like ten at least means if i see you're listening to a leak or somehting i can say oh snap ididnt know you liked them where as a one liner usually just shows whatever embarassing piece of shit you're listening to right now which usually ends up being frequent.

they're both kind of dumb but yeah dude use the chart of your last ten plays at least it's representative. edit: especially if you IRONICALLY LISTENED TO PARAMORE or something and went away and your sig will show TREG IS LISTENING TO: THATS WHAT YOU GET-PARAMORE for two hours.
